If Your Temple Cracks, Everything Else Will Crumble

“I don’t have time to do it.” “I’ll get to it later.” “My career (or education) comes first.” “I’m too busy.” ‘I’ll be (or I am) fine.” These are some of the excuses people give for not taking care of themselves, and/or not prioritizing their own health over other areas in their lives. I get it – there’s sooooo much we need to get done in any given day, and we feel like doing anything outside of those tasks will put us behind schedule, derail our progress, or set us too far behind. The main reason being is that we don’t see, or understand, the importance of making ourselves not just a priority, but THE priority.

October Release: The Importance of Self-Care

For the next 2 months, I want to focus on what it means to prioritize yourself and why it is so important. For this month, we will focus on self-care, and then in November, we will discuss self-love.

In an age where things are constantly moving at a fast-pace, it is very easy to find ourselves caught up in the now and forget how crucial it is to take care of yourself. The only way you can keep up with your demanding lifestyle is to make sure your mind and body have the capacity to do so. Many of us think we have this covered, and then wonder why we end up stressed, burnt out, and unable to find the energy to power through the week. Don't underestimate what putting yourself last on your list of priorities can do to you because the results can be serious and long-lasting. So allow me to help you make sure that doesn't happen.

Change Now, Reap Later

“New year, new me,” but you’re still doing the same things from 2018. “I’m starting the business this year,” but you’re still hanging around your demotivated friends. “Oh, I am definitely going to start this diet,” but you’re still hitting McDonalds for that 2 for $5 Fish Filet. “I’m over them and won’t give them another chance,” but you’re still sending them “wyd” texts when you get lonely. “I won’t cheat on you again,” but you’re still responding to those late night “you up?” texts and still answering DMs on social media. “I’m going to value myself and my body,” but you’re still posting thirst traps.” “I’m going to change Lord,” but you’re still living the same life as non-believers. “God, I’m going to follow your plan and go where you lead me,” but you’re still trying to make your own dreams happen.

July Release: How To Make Real Change Within Yourself

One of the biggest challenges we face as human beings is changing who we are, and/or going against our own nature. We try again and again to address certain aspects about ourselves that are toxic, have negative connotations, or just in general are not helping us progress in life, and many times we end up failing. Why is that? Why do we struggle so much with something that we are doing for our benefit? Well the answer isn't so simple because, well, we aren't simple. When it comes to change - real change - it takes a great deal of work, effort, commitment, and trial and error because we are trying to address something in which we are accustomed, and that's never an easy task.

Traveling Solo Dolo

Last month, I decided to take a solo dolo trip to Bangkok, Thailand for my birthday! Why did I pick Bangkok? I honestly still don’t know lol but everything seemed to fall into place from planning the trip, to booking activities and tours, to securing the flight and hotel. So armed with my mother’s hundreds of prayers, and all my travel necessities, I was on my way. And I can honestly say traveling on my own was one of the most worthwhile and eye-opening experiences I’ve ever had, and I would highly recommend people to try it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be out of the country but taking a trip alone puts you in a space where you can experience things for yourself without the input of others, grow and cultivate your sense of independence, and really get to know the real you. I certainly did, and I learned key some things along the way:

Verse of the Week

(9) "Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. (10) And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!"
- James 3:9-10

The Company You Keep

We all have people in our lives that we hold close to our hearts. We call some of them friends, some of them besties, and some we even call family. Eventually, these individuals begin fulfilling some role(s) in our lives- going out with us, tagging along on trips, imparting wisdom when needed, accompanying us to whack events, etc. Regardless of the reason, these are people we have chosen to keep around. We are so used to them that we probably don’t notice how they could be influencing our own lives. It’s crazy to think, right? They already accepted us for who we are; so why would we try to change ourselves? That’s just it; we don’t- at least, not intentionally. We may not realize it but their presence alone does more than we give it credit.

April/May Release: The Influences of the Company You Keep

First off, let me apologize for the delay in this post. I have been traveling and it has been halting my progress with writing. But rest assured, it will be released before the end of this month!

This release will focus on a special topic that affects all of us- the impact the people you are surrounded by have on your life. We underestimate at times how influential our circles can be and it's usually not until we see things changing in our thoughts, actions and/or mindsets that we realize this. It can be good or bad, or even both, but not understanding that influence could be detrimental if you see yourself going in a direction you don't like. On the other end, it could also take you to much better places than you were before. It all depends on who's in your circle.

Stay tuned; you don't want to miss this post!

- James 4:17

Verse of the Week

"As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you."
- 1 Peter 1:24‭-‬25

Being Planted Longer Than You'd Like

I am currently in a phase of my life where I feel like I have been placed in a particular situation and no matter how much I hope, pray, or wish, I can’t get out of it. Are you facing a similar scenario? Do you feel like you’re in a place where you want to move to something or somewhere different, but can’t seem to do so? It took some time to realize, and it may be hard to believe, but that’s actually a good thing. It means you’ve been planted in a place that is meant to help you grow in some way.

Verse of the Week

"If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?"
- 1 John 4:20

March Release: Planted For Longer Than You'd Like

I don't know about y'all, but one of the most frustrating things in life for me is being in a place I no longer want to be and being unable to leave it. It could be anything from being out at an event and being ready to go but your friend isn't, to working in a job that no longer holds your interest. Unfortunately, we all go through this tough period at some point in our lives but it's necessary for growth. So I'll be discussing how to deal with it when you're in that season, and make it just a little bit more bearable.

Verse of the Week

"And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet."

Setbacks are Not Always a Step Back

No one likes to take an L (loss). Just ask LeBron James, or Rob Kardashian, or Michael Cohen. So it makes sense that when things take a turn for the worst, or don’t work out the way you want, it gets you down. However, very rarely do we actually think that there could be a reason for the “bad” things that happen to us. We become so focused on things not going well that we don’t even think about why it’s happening. Well, I’m here to tell you that whether you believe it or not, not every setback is necessarily a step back. And when you are able to apply this to your life, big things will be revealed to you.

January Release: The Setback is Really a Setup

Do you find yourselves going through tough stages of life? Do things seem to be going well for you and then suddenly not? Do you feel as if when you start to plan things out, it never goes according to plan? Are you just tired of taking Ls?

Well, you're not alone. However, you should know that just because things, from your perspective, may not seem to be going so well, as planned, or in the right direction, doesn't mean it's always a bad thing. Many times, it's for positive reasons you just can't see right now. And no, I don't just mean, "setbacks being a setup for a comeback." I also mean setbacks placing you in positions to come into the fullness of what's in store for you, and/or helping you realize the events that need to happen to get where you want and need to be.

So don't get so down when things don't seem to be going your way. I always say everything happens for a reason. And take heart; this month's release will talk about just that. So stay tuned!
