If You Don't Follow Your Dreams, Who Will?

Dreams. We all have them. Usually in our sleep, but those aren't the dreams I'm talking about, in a sense. I'm talking about the dreams that are our aspirations. No matter how big or small they are, we all have things we'd like to see happen in our lives. Whether its reaching a certain status in a company, owning your own business, finding the love of your life to spend the rest of your time with, or even graduating from school, a dream is something very important to us. We try to find the means necessary to make these dreams come true but that's easier said than done. You see, nothing in life comes easy, especially dreams. Sure, there are countless movies out there that may say otherwise, but they're movies. Their purpose in those cases is to inspire us to go after our dreams and make them happen. And we should!

However, just as there are many voices telling us to follow our dreams, there are just as many voices telling us it's impossible. Life wouldn't be what it is without obstacles. A dream becomes more significant when we actually work to achieve them. If it were that simple, they wouldn't be a dream, but merely another act without much meaning. People will say, "That's impossible", "You're wasting your time", "No one has done it", "You're in way over your head", and other things to make you give up on your dreams. Those are the voices of doubt that are only there to bring you down. Langston Hughes said, "Hold fast to dreams. For if dreams die, Life is a broken-winged bird, That can not fly." If everyone listened to those doubtful voices, we wouldn't have the performing artists, athletes, actors, and other successful people we love so much today. Of course there were voices telling them they wouldn't make it, but look at them now. What can those people say to their success? You see, the negative voices will always be there because this world isn't a perfect place. The good and the bad are there to balance each other and keep the peace. It's your job to be able to counter the doubt with your drive to make your dreams come to pass.

So are the people who say its going to be hard and seemingly impossible right? Of course they are! But the challenges are what let you know you're getting closer to reaching those dreams. You have to be able to stick to your dreams in the face of adversity. Dedication and perseverance are what separates a dream from a thought. And action is what makes a dream a reality. Nothing in this world is impossible. We are shown that time and time again. Therefore, there's no excuse to giving up. It just means you didn't want it bad enough. So stay true and have faith. Because in the end, if we don't follow our dreams, who will?
