New Years Sentiments

I know this is coming a week late but I was debating if I should create an actual post about New Years or just share some advice. I've decided to go with the latter half and even though it's a little late in the game, this is some food for thought about how you plan on treating 2017.

First, do not be one of the people posting all over social media “New Year, New Me” because, chances are, that new you will last about 3 weeks - if that. Before you realize it, you would have reverted back to the old you. It’s hard to not see the new year as a chance to redeem your shortcomings from the previous year. However, the reason I advise you to avoid just waiting until a new year to make those adjustments is because following the hype means you won’t have a solid enough foundation to see those changes through. You will end up talking yourself out of it with time, or slacking altogether until you give up. But if you can’t help wanting to use the new year to start fresh, then let it be for a genuine reason if you really want to see an improvement in your life.

Second, don’t expect it to be a breeze just because you want it really badly. Change does not come easy. One of the realest sayings I have heard is, “Closed mouths don’t get fed.” If you truly want something, you have to grind to earn it. The best things in life are the things we work for; there’s just something gratifying about putting in the effort to attain something. There’s also the aspect that nothing in this life is free, nor will anything be placed in your lap. So go claim your blessings and achievements this year. Trust me when I say your hard work will play off.

Third, everyone should genuinely be grateful that by God’s grace we were able to see 2017. There are numerous celebrities, African-Americans, police officers, and numerous others that lost their lives in 2016. There are just as many who were diagnosed with illnesses, diseases, infections, and more. Life is something everyone takes for granted, or has taken for granted at some point. Therefore, be thankful you have it now and are doing well, because your life could be much, much worse.

Let these three pieces of advice be a guide to making sure you make the most out of this year and can look back in 2018 content that you achieved great things.
